R.J. Rico, an industrious reporter with strong news judgment, has been hired by The Associated Press for the Atlanta legislative relief position.
The 12-week assignment was announced Wednesday by South Region News Director Ravi Nessman and Deep South Editor Jim Van Anglen.
The 28-year-old has previously worked in a variety of positions at the AP, including as an editor on the South Regional Desk and as news associate on the South Shared News Desk. He also covered the Louisiana Legislature last spring in Baton Rouge, where he reported on the state’s criminal justice overhaul.
As a freelance journalist, Rico has written stories for numerous outlets including The Guardian, The New York Times and VICE.
He has a B.A. in history from Yale University.
